Today is count day!
This year, parents of more
than 140,000 children in Michigan chose to send their children to a charter
school. In addition to 140,000 students and their parents, there are
thousands of dedicated teachers, leaders and instructional staff that made
a personal commitment to charter schools across the state.
While the reasons to work
at a charter school vary, as many as there are children, each choice is as
personal as the next.
Those personal choices are
why we celebrate today!
We are also celebrating the
first-ever "Health of the Charter Sector" report, which
was released today across the country. In an attempt to determine which
states execute charters the best, the report looked at 11 different factors
and ranked each state. Michigan
ranks 3rd in the nation! We've long known that we're a national model when
it comes to charter schools, and this report confirms it.
With the recent effort to close your school, your elected
officials in Lansing MUST hear about this good news!
Thank you all for the incredibly
hard work you do to educate the next generation. Your personal decisions
and careers matter to those 140,000 kids and the thousands of children on
waiting lists.
With sincere
gratitude,
